Looked to be promising a good turn out for the Thursday night ride. Forecast was perfect, nice clear skies. Thing started to go a little wrong when Jase announced that he wouldnt be making the ride as he had fallen off (gasp!) on the work commute and now had a swollen finger. Predicably, Clarkies balls fell off at the at the last minute, leaving just me, toss and weest.
7pm at tossers came and weest turns up, we spin off down the slippery madness that is the valley traverse (we need a name for this lads!! put your suggestions in comments). Weester somehow managed to ride up onto the path, making a 3' vertical step up look easy. Me and Toss struggled walking up it. Spin up the other side to Oaks Lane and then the railway to Shady Lane. Rather than go right up to the top, I decided as it was night that we would shoot over to the Jumble car park and take the eastern shore right up to Edgeworth. Great fun. The descent was surprisingly firm, just one bit of mud caught me and toss out. It was on a bend with a tree on the outside edge. A bit disconcerting hitting the mud then sliding towards the tree.
The upper bit of the jumbles was fun and spat us out at the Spread Eagle. Up the Hill to the Bull then accross the Damn and up to Entwistle car park. Me and Weest took a short cut which turned into a dead end, involving a push and slither down a muddy cliff face to regain the path. Sadly there were absolutly no doggers at the car park, so we just headed up to WW and flew down to Mr. Neils.
My new shock is really well bedded in now and I'm made up with the difference. Flying down the tip run, the bike just was floating over everything I threw at it, so I decided to chuck it down the rocky chute onto Cox Green... brilliant.. didnt touch the brakes hardly and the bike never flinched. Weester had a moment in the forest but survived intact.
Back to Tossers the fire was lit, beer was drunk, dildo's were mentioned, we speculated on whether Jase's Mrs loved his new fat finger and Tosser dog knocked my Pint over. Toss once again did us proud with some posh chips and the crack was mighty.
A fooking DAMN fine evening.
Now, where to go on Sunday. Nice forecast, wont be able to ride the sunday after, think I'll try and get a pass out and go somewhere nice. hmmmmmmm
